Overview
This portrait frames vdB 140, a faint reflection nebula adrift in the rich star fields of Cepheus. Unlike its more flamboyant neighbors, this nebula reveals its presence through a soft, blue haze as starlight scatters off interstellar dust. Dark lanes thread across the field, partially veiling the glow and giving the scene a quiet, mysterious character. The image integrates 20.83 hours of LRGB exposure, allowing the faint nebulosity and delicate dust structures to emerge with clarity. Surrounding stars shimmer against the subtle glow, underscoring the interplay of light and shadow in this seldom-imaged corner of the sky. vdB 140 may be modest in scale compared to grand emission nebulae, but its ethereal reflection makes it a hidden gem — a reminder that beauty often resides in the quiet, understated places of the cosmos.
